Duck Creek Wild is an auxiliary club of Davenport Public Works' Natural Resources Division with the purpose and mission to enhance Duck Creek's riparian areas, Duck Creek's Recreational Trail vies and education the community about these valuable ecological assets in our Community.
We will be holding events along Duck Creek and the recreational trail throughout 2021. This March 6, 2021 event kicks off the series.
On March 6, we will be preparing the trail to receive native plantings by removing invasive species, litter and other debris from along Duck Creek Recreational Trail. We will also be spreading some native seed while we are out.
Who can Participate? This opportunity is open to anyone interested in beautifying Davenport and protecting the health of local waterways. No previous experience is necessary. Individuals under the age of 18 must have adult supervision.
Description of Project: Volunteers will be picking up litter and removing invasive species. These activities require walking, bending, lifting, shoveling, chopping, and placing wastes in a bag for disposal and carries little hazard. The equipment to be used may include hand tools such as shovels, pruners, loppers and hand broadcasters. Equipment will be provided and used in field operations. Volunteers will receive safety instruction and prior to volunteering.
Weather? Weather is very variable in March. It could be a sunny day with a high of 50, or a day with rain sprinkles around 35. Because of difficulties associated with canceling and rescheduling, we will beautify the recreational trail in light rain and low temperatures; however, the event may end earlier for volunteer comfort. We will only cancel if there is a chance for significant rain, snow, high winds, or threat of lightening. Just remember to dress for conditions.
Follow-up with all registered volunteers will occur on the Monday before the cleanup as a reminder and heads up regarding any weather impacts.
COVID-19: There are no plans to cancel this event due to COVID-19. The project is outdoors and not in cramped or confined spaces. Volunteers are able to keep a safe distance during the event. For the health and safety of all, volunteers are asked to not sign up to participate if feeling sick.
