Garlic Mustard Pull Challenge at Black Hawk State Park | May 4, 2024

Event Date

Start Time
9:00 AM
End Time

Event Description

Join Bi-CAN on removing Garlic Mustard from the community! Garlic mustard is an invasive species that quickly overruns natural areas, crowding out wildflowers, ferns, and tree seedlings. We can slow the spread of garlic mustard by taking away its chance to reseed. Everyone that participates in the Garlic Mustard Pull Challenge will be in the running to win and receive a trophy and bragging rights!

Grab your friends and spend the morning with fellow community members out in the field, pulling and bagging garlic mustard from local parks and natural areas to help control its growth.

Volunteers will meet at the Singing Bird Lodge parking lot. There will be a host on-site to hand out bags, gloves, and help with identification. Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and sleeves, close-toed shoes, bug spray, sunscreen, and a hat.

Everyone that participates in the Garlic Mustard Pull Challenge can join us for a celebratory lunch at noon on May 4th. It will be held at  Duck Creek Park, Shelter 2.  Down the hill from the main Locust Street entrance, past the turnoff for the golf course. Near the playground and entrance to the bike path. Bring your own reusable water bottle. Please RSVP by May 2nd.

Can't make May 4th? No problem. You can choose a location of your own and pull at any time that is convenient for you.
